Getting rid of some paint in useful manner. Been just itching to paint. This was more fun than painting Judy's porch.

I finally dusted off Hope, my food processor, and made some one ingredient banana ice cream, shown below with my pear compote. I could have hardened the ice cream, then heated the pears before eating, but then I would have had to wait. Slice ripe bananas into coins then freeze them on a tray. I froze them in an empty Blue Bunny frozen yogurt container. I included the photograph of the frozen blob ' banana so you can learn from my mistakes. Run the processor and scrape the sides fairly often. The bananas will look like cheese curds, then whammo! It gets creamy right now. I'll be making this again: it's worth having to clean Hope.
I've realized I took care of myself better when I was on vacation. From now on, I'm going to be on vacation every day. On vacation I was hyper-vigilant about food. I was really good about my exercises. Here at home I've been lazy about eating well and about stretching my spine.
Why was I so able to take care of myself on the Road Trip? The answer that resonates is because vacation meant vacation from the responsibilities of taking care of my beloveds at home. The fact is I love taking care of people, but I need to practise what I preach and take care of me first. Taking care of my body is the first step to taking care of myself, of living the dream. What made me stand back and give my life the latest hairy eyeball was my slacking off exercise. The only person I help with ten minutes of daily exercise is, uh, me, Captain Obvious. I am going to look forward to the snap, crackle, pop of my spine saying, "Thanks, man! Now, go drink your kefir." Celebrating Autumn. Ham butt slathered in orange marmelade, fig preserves and a drizzle of dijon mustard. Local apples, onions, sweet and white potatoes crowded into the pan. What you don't see here are local carrots cooked in honey and lime water. Nor do you see the pecan peach cornbread, my latest experiment into gluten free baking. Made ham gravy, too.
Shannon's birthday is actually Tuesday. We started her celebration today, though. I was designated driver, ain't that a hoot? Went through the last of the road trip photos on one memory card. Phew! One more to go! Below you see one of my insect photographs: the dreaded Walmart Spider Wrap!
Erie Public Library loans out family passes for the Art Museum and the Maritime Museum. I signed up for the Maritime pass back when I thought I could take the grandkids. I finally got it a couple days ago. Terry, Gramma and I went. Lucky for us, the Brig-Niagara was in port, so we were able to board her, too. ...can I taste your ware? Ok, so I didn't exactly meet a pieman at the fair, but I sure found plenty of food I couldn't eat. Some of it wasn't meant to be eaten. The fair was a feast for the eyes, though. Except, perhaps, this. . .
.When I notice that I am not living the dream, I give my present circumstances a good going over with two hairy eyeballs. Inevitably, nothing is keeping me from happiness. It is I not being happy. I recently read the concept that dissatisfaction with what is (the present) is the cause of unhappiness. Rock on Captn Obvious. I started this website with the sole idea of making a website. The website was dun the first day. Every day that I post is another celebration of completion. Satisfaction. Working on this site is one spice in my recipe for a good life. Not working on it usually means I'm too busy living the dream. It can also mean I am neither gardening, nor eating well, nor giving away photographs. Today I realized that I was so busy fretting over the full boring slide show of my roadtrip that my present was at a stand still. I was allowing myself to get sucked into living in the past, albeit recent, instead of getting on with the present. To celebrate, I give you today. What we have here is a basket of freshly picked roma tomatoes by yours truly at dusk. I rinsed them, then dropped them into boiling water long enough for the skins to get loose. The tomatoes went into a cold water bath long enough for me to be able to peel off the skins. The herbs are oregano, lavender and lemon basil, plucked from my garden minutes before being added to a nice gob of melted butter. When the kitchen started smelling good, I dropped in some thinly sliced garlic. I added the tomatoes to the big ceramic covered cast iron dutch oven. Right now everything is in the oven for a long, slow overnighter. Can't wait til tomorrow! |

If you don't dream they can't come true
